Jarvis Subaru SA Interschool Snowsport Championships 2010 Conducted in the second week of the SA July school holidays, 14/15 July during the SA Interschool Week at Mt Buller, Vic. The web site will be updated for the 2010 Interschool event around Nov/Dec this year 2009.

WHAT ARE THE SA INTERSCHOOL SNOWSPORT CHAMPIONSHIPS?

The South Australian Interschool Snowsport Championships are part of the Australian National Interschool programme. Facilitated in South Australia by the South Australian Skiers Association (SASKI) with the support of our sponsors. The event provides an opportunity for primary and secondary students of all abilities to showcase their skiing or snowboarding skills and compete for trophies for their school. Details of the conditions and team specifications can be found in the official rule book, [FORMS], Rules.

The week the Championships are conducted at Mt Buller is known as the SA Interschool Week.

WHAT ARE THE STUDENTS COMPETING FOR?

Perpetual trophies are awarded to Schools with the greatest number of points acquired during the competitions. Male and female team times for each school, in both secondary and primary categories, determine the number of points awarded. First, second and third place getters in each division will be awarded medals, see FORMS, Rules.  Individual medals are awarded to the fastest primary and secondary male and female skier/boarder. There are trophies for the Best Presented School and the Best Placed New School.

WHEN IS IT ON?

The Championships are conducted each year during the second week of the South Australian July school holidays. In 2010 the South Australian Interschool week takes place from July 11th to 16th. Snowboard competitions are held on the Wednesday afternoon (14th) and alpine competitions on Thursday (15th), depending on the number of entries, the weather and the snow conditions.

 WHERE IS IT HELD?

At Mount Buller, Victoria. Mount Buller is approximately 3 hours from Melbourne and about 10 hours from Adelaide. The nearest township is Mansfield in the foothills of the Victorian Alps. Your week at the snow can include daily lessons catering for beginners to experienced. By day 3 most beginners get pretty confident and most compete in the competition. School groups start lessons on Monday morning, July 12th.

The SA Interschool Championships form part of the National Interschool program involving NSW, Vic, ACT, & SA. (With possible future involvement from QLD, WA & Tas)

The opportunity exists for students to try out other types of snow activities, including cross-country skiing and snowshoe walks. Schools will need to make separate arrangements for these activities with providers at Mt Buller.

LIFT TICKETS AND TRAINING PACKAGES

Although the lift and lesson packages for SA schools have the same price structure as other school packages, the program for this week has been specifically tailored to suit the needs of SA school students, many of whom may only visit the snow fields once a year.

Mt Buller has an excellent ski school and race department.
Their combined effort will ensure that students from first timers to experienced skiers are appropriately catered for. The main emphasis is on having fun and enjoying the alpine snow experience.

A 5 day lift & lesson package is available for Primary students and Secondary students at a special price. The Lift & Lesson booking form,is available from this site or can be obtained by contacting Mt Buller, Advance Sales and must be organised at least 14 days prior to your arrival date. They will also be pleased to advise on accommodation package prices and arrangements.

DISCOUNTS FOR SCHOOLS

The entry fee will include a voucher for drinks, food, ski hire and goods on the mountain.
These vouchers will be sent to Team Managers prior to departure for the Interschool Week or made available at Mt Buller.

NATIONAL INTERSCHOOL CHAMPIOSHIPS

Place-getters are automatically eligible to compete in the National Championships held in NSW or Vic during September, see below.
This is the only SA event that provides eligibility to the National event.

The first 5 place getters in each division are eligible to enter the Australian Interschool Snowsport Championships to be held in Victoria, Sept 2009.
